2019: Hibernate

2019 is a year of healing and rest for me because for the first 3 quarters of the year it’s like my life is about work as if I am a programmed robot. Sleep at day, awake at night to work and I don’t have any activities except in the last quarter of this year.  It becomes a routine to me already that I forgot that I must develop myself.

I feel that this year I was in hibernate mode and I let the time pass me by. It was different 3 or 5 years ago where I look forward to promotions and progress, this year I find comfort in what I am doing. It was and it sounds nice, but I know that it will wreak havoc me soon. I should be exploring more and taking risks while I still can.

Though I am not complaining as I also liked it because at least I am able to focus on my goal and finish it off soon so I can concentrate on myself once again. I still have another year though (next year) to reach the finish line for that goal. This is what I also asked God, to give me time to heal, rest, and focus.

seoul

But God also hears my prayers, which is to control my career path. Honestly, I’m tired of chasing the career goals so I just let God takes control over it. I will just do whatever God wants me to do and what I can only do is give my 100% and let Him drive everything for me. If they (the company, or people) appreciate what I did then it’s good and if not then move on. What matters is I know to my self that I did my part and give my 100%. It’s important that you give your 100% in everything you do so that you will not feel any regret after it is done.

God shakes and stirs me a little bit, it’s His plans for me and I look at it as an opportunity. It’s just that it anxious me as I don’t know what’s in store for me next year, what obstacles that I need to face, and most importantly if I can sustain my responsibilities that I am carrying on my shoulder. I am expecting that it will be a hard time for me for the first quarter of next year (hopefully not the entire year), but I just pray that those who depends on me will not be affected.

I highly believe that if God closes doors He wants and leads you to better ones. Something needs to be destroyed so that new seeds can prosper. I am anxious and at the same time excited for the year 2020, it may be a roller coaster ride that I have to go up, down, and side. But just like the ride, it scares you at first but once done it’s super fun.

How to Stay Cool?

I’m not talking humidity and how you will keep your body in a perfect temperature here but I’m talking about the other meaning of “cool” in slang terminology. The slang meaning of cool is being awesome and the word awesome seems to have a different meaning depending on how or what it is about.

I am not saying that I am awesome, I don’t want to blow my own trumpet. Few friends asked me on how I keep myself genuinely okay to most of the situations. Let’s just say that they’re amazed on how I stay cool to whatever direction the team or the situation is asked to go. A previous manager of mine when I was still an apprentice nicknamed me “Ok ra” guy (“Ok ra” means “cool, whatever”) because whatever suggestion solicitation he asked from me I always answered, “ok ra”. I’m pretty sure he’s annoyed because he’s not getting any good advice from me.

Optimism, I think that’s what I always have when deciding things whether it’s for me or for someone else. I always believe that whatever direction we go we will always end up to what is fated for us to be or to have. They say, your decisions today shape who we are tomorrow, well yeah kind’a true but I believe that your tomorrow was already written a long time ago. We all have a mission here and every day we are working towards it even though we still don’t know what it is yet. So to some decisions that for me does not have an impact on what my mission is on Earth, I don’t invest so much energy towards it; I let fate decides for me because it does not matter, it’s just a little spice in life and will pass through. For example eating, it’s an essential activity for us to live and continue our life but choosing what or where to eat is not something that I invest my energy into because the goal is to survive, whatever food is available I’m cool though I have likes and dislikes but I can always configure my taste when the food is already on the table. I eat when I’m hungry and I mostly don’t follow a schedule because it does not matter for me. But if I have cravings I don’t think there’s a decision to make on that case unless of outside factors that will affect it which I can configure by pursuing it or not which is not important regardless of my decision.

If someone asked for some advice and I feel that it’s a step towards their fate, I only give them possible scenarios if they choose those directions and I let them decide.

Male vs Female

Males are creatures from Mars while Females are from Venus. Just a disclaimer, this is not a sexist post. Scientifically, male and female have different biological and anatomical structure. We may have similar organs and its functions but there is still a lot that is different, one of them is our body chemistry and hormones. The way we think is different, there are many factors that can be considered of its process but if we will disregard those outside factors what remains in the slate is the hormones/body chemicals we have in our body or brain. I’m not a scientist, but I assume you are aware that we are not magical creatures and our existence is backed up by science.

If the baby that is not exposed to environmental learning can decide the female babies will have a similar decision algorithm to other female babies and is different from the male babies decision algorithm. We are born in a blank slate but our canvas was weaved differently and it’s based on simple criteria: sex, and DNA. I have observed that females are keen to details, they are detail oriented while males are goal oriented. Males regardless of his gender are polygamous and Females will always take good care of her offspring.

In Conclusion

chill, everything will be okay. ^_^

I added this sex difference part of this post above because some of my female friends asked me how I managed to stay cool every time. They are complaining of simple items that they observe towards a person or to the situation, they put so much energy entertaining their pet peeves. The above are my advice, first, they have to understand that it’s difficult because that’s how women think so what they can do is control it, practice, and always be aware. Be optimistic, our life is not the same as the story of Filipino teleserye or telenovela. Life is not that cruel in reality, just be wise, know your priority, think ahead but not overthink. If you believe in God, knows that He will not forsake you nor put you in a situation that you cannot handle.

so, chill! 🙂

How to Overcome Passive Listening Habit

When I was in my school days from elementary to college, I was frustrated by myself because instead of helping the person, I made it more complicated. When someone asked me before a question or advice I noticed that they were more confused after I provided my thoughts. It was frustrating to my part because I did try my very best to help the person solve his/her problem but instead I gave him or her more problem. I will give you an example (this is a hypothetical example as I cannot recall those failed Q&A of mine):

Question: How to cook rice in the rice cooker?

Me: The rice and the water must be in equal parts to each other, plus half of the cup of water to make your rice fluffy.

If I am the naive advisee who does not know how to cook rice in the rice cooker I would certainly scratch my head and have more questions instead of the answer. What my answer was not exactly the right answer to the question; I provided an advance answer.

What was my mistake?

I was frustrated to myself that sometimes I will just answer their queries of “I don’t know” to make it easy for them to move forward and for myself not to feel guilty. But I know that I cannot always answer “I don’t know” even if I know the answer and I need to be helpful to others. So I study myself, my answers, of why I answer that way, why I direct them to a more confusing scenario instead of giving them the right answer. I thought to myself that I should learn to give the appropriate answer. I can answer the question in so many ways but there’s only few that fits into the question and that is what I should practice.

When I was assessing myself, I learned that I was a passive listener (actually until now, I still do but I try to reduce it), that I always thought of an answer to a question that was not yet asked. I tend to give an answer that was advance because of the desire to help that person and let him solve his problem smoothly.

What is Passive Listening?

According to diffzi.com passive listening is:
the listening where a person although listen to the others but not with full attention, he often distract himself from the ongoing discussion.

In my case, I formulated an answer ahead instead of actively listening to the person. I imagine what’s the next step, the possible things that the person may stumble when solving his problem, or looking into my archive the tips that I think the person should have instead of answering the simple question he throws to me.

There are many reasons why you become a passive listener, like you are listening to a music, you are focus to another physical activity, or you are entertaining other distractions around you.

How did I resolve it?

This sounds cliche but it’s important; acknowledge the problem. Don’t kid yourself or beat around the bush, it maybe painful but accepting the problem is important to address it. Next is to assess yourself, assess the gravity of the problem, then be observant and ask for help.

From passive listening to active listening, you need to be patient by allowing the person to express and talk without interrupting him so you can exactly pinpoint the problem. Be focus, if you are doing something pause that for awhile while listening to the person; you should be able to summarize what he said before formulating your answer. As the person speaks I’m pretty sure that you will see some relevant points, keep a mental list and use it only when necessary. If you have your own idea, keep that too to your mental list until the person is done expressing the problem. Ask questions if you are not satisfied but only if the person stops talking or he feels he provided all the information; you should not interrupt him with your question while he’s still talking.

I still commit passive listening but I try to reduce that one. I am able to determine which is worth taking and which one is the not so important conversations. There are still advantages actually of being a passive listener, or a passive person and I will blog that soon.

The universe is a sphere of dimensions

Disclaimer: Below is a product of a hunch and no well-substantiated explanation of some aspect, this is purely from my intuition; after all, no living human being can really provide accurate measurement and proof for this vast unknown.

I do believe that our universe or shall we say the outside of Earth, the black unknown horizon is made up of time, space, and ether (this could be the dark matter). There is an unknown number of dimensions, each might have a life-form like ours. The shape of the universe is a huge sphere and the alternate world or dimensions might be separated by time and special kind of energy not yet known by men. When asked where is the end of this universe, it’s just actually right behind you. However, if you will travel through space only (if you will use the current science technology [the time of writing is 2018]) it will take time for you to arrive because you have to circumvent our sphere of dimension and there will be a lot of changes while you are away and assuming that you are still alive when you arrive it will become alien to you.  And it may take time also for you to only realize that the end of the universe is to where you started.

[canvasio3D width=”820″ height=”620″ border=”1″ borderCol=”#F6F6F6″ dropShadow=”0″ backCol=”#000000″ backImg=”…” mouse=”off” rollMode=”auto” rollSpeedX=”-5″ rollSpeedY=”5″ objPath=”” objScale=”0.2″ objColor=”#fecc0c” lightSet=”3″ reflection=”on” refVal=”1″ objShadow=”on” floor=”off” floorHeight=”42″ lightRotate=”on” vector=”off” mousewheel=”on” Help=”on” zoom=”460″] [/canvasio3D]

inside the universe are different dimensions including ours that maybe are inter-lapsing and or merging to each other

Do you believe that there are other life forms out there and similar to Earth?

Yes, but it could not be on our dimension, it’s on the other dimension and the separation is not just the space but a mixture of time and ether. For now, no technology can cross through the dimensions except nature because nature is part of the universe. If you can cross the other dimensions then time travel can be done as well.

[canvasio3D width=”820″ height=”620″ border=”1″ borderCol=”#F6F6F6″ dropShadow=”0″ backCol=”#75676c” backImg=”…” mouse=”off” rollMode=”auto” rollSpeedX=”-5″ rollSpeedY=”5″ objPath=”” objScale=”0.2″ objColor=”#fecc0c” lightSet=”3″ reflection=”on” refVal=”5″ objShadow=”on” floor=”on” floorHeight=”42″ lightRotate=”off” vector=”off” mousewheel=”on” Help=”off” zoom=”400″] [/canvasio3D]

Heaven and hell might be just another dimensions but what’s for sure is they are positioned maybe above in our dimension sphere or maybe universe sphere for heaven and under it for hell.

If we will rely on our current science alone it will take us probably millions of years to discover it, it will also consume so much energy and resources. My guess would be 1 or more Tsar bomb but the detonation is just to create a warped energy (to attract whirlpool of dark matter). Of course, it’s not just about energy, time is very important as well along with vibrations in the surrounding. Here on Earth and of course some other part of the universe, there are like holes or a whirlpool of vibrating energy (dark matter) but it does not sit in one location (though there are also stationary); and only a few amounts of energy (~100 watts maybe) and a mixture of time to cross to another dimension, I know this sounds like magic or a movie but it is the same as Dr. Strange (just for you to get the idea but not necessarily with those sparks around it).

With time and twilight (darkness mixed with light) the merged dimensions can be visible as well as passable. Though some holes require energy only, which means that any earthly material or hard matter won’t pass through.

Is this more of magic instead of science?

Magic, when we hear this word we associate it immediately to either a trick or some demonic thing. But the reality is, it’s another branch of science that deals with the unknown and unseen world. It has different principles, laws, rules that will deviate from what the common science is teaching us. We all know that we have energy, and we have the ability to attract other forms of energy and this is what magic is all about. Attracting energy and commanding it like how programmers create syntax to command a machine. The ancient people already knew about this and it became part of their life but the modern science wiped this out and flagged the practice as demonic. The religion knew about this too but they keep it in a way that ordinary people can understand and accept without over-stepping the modern science’s explanation.

I mentioned magic because this is the only branch of science (as I believe) that will bypass all those efforts and resources that will be spent if we rely on modern science alone to explore these dimensions and travel through it. Other life-forms in other dimensions are probably using it already and they maybe had or have travel back and forth to our dimension. They could be the reason there are events here that we cannot understand and no one can explain, even modern science.

I know it’s difficult to comprehend because it’s naturally complicated especially if we have a strong belief in modern science. There are questions that cannot be answered if we rely upon to it, maybe a little widening of thought-horizon and maximizing what we currently have is the key.

If you find things are complicated, return to the basic.

Anti-straw campaign is a lame excuse that you care nature

So the year is 2018 as of this writing and we have this anti-straw campaign thing, I think this started when there’s a video of a sea turtle with a straw on its nose and the outcry of nature and animal lovers sparked.. so they started a movement and now it’s a bandwagon.

It’s the same logic as your plan to diet, its good at the first 3 months but after that, you are back again.

Why I say bandwagon? people are joining because it’s a hype or a trend in social media but they don’t really have that 100% heart to care nature and future generation. I don’t have any problem with it, yes it’s good at least.. it starts in little ways but the global warming and environmental degradation effect can already be felt and we need to act fast. The change of lifestyle and adapting this movement should be from the heart because if it’s not then it will just fade out and we will just come back to what is convenient and what we are used to. It’s the same logic as your plan to diet, its good at the first 3 months but after that, you are back again.

The campaign should not just about plastic straw but all one time use plastic containers.

Why do we have to have this campaign?

Starbucks and the government of Cebu join the anti-straw bandwagon through a campaign. Again, I don’t have any problem with it, I will gladly comply however on the other side I’m wondering why do we have to have this campaign? If the government is serious about this in preserving nature and mitigating from the natural disaster and effects of climate change why don’t they just close those plastic companies producing one time use plastic containers and force them to think of another way?

Obviously, it’s business and money and some of them are friends with the politicians but if they are really thinking the next generation or even the current population I think it’s logical, forward-thinking, and long-term to completely remove those manufacturers. Because whether you’ll stop using a straw the manufacturers will still create and these excess unused straws will just add to the current problem (besides, it’s not about the straw).

Think the logical and long-term! Why don’t the government fund or support Filipino scientists who have better, nature-friendly and long lasting product design, or if we don’t have that talent maybe we can outsource that from neighboring country. There’s this plastic made of cassava starch invented by an Indonesian, Kevin Kumala.

The material is biodegradable and compostable, breaking down over a period of months on land or at sea. However, it dissolves instantly in hot water. The inventor claims it leaves no trace of toxic residue, which he demonstrates by drinking the dissolved plastic.  – materialdistrict.com

Plastic bags are useful but we have to managed it very well because it affects so much to mother Earth, according to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) data from the  2015 study “Plastic waste inputs from land into the ocean” shows that the Philippines wastes 6,237,653 kg (6875.84 tons) of plastic per day, of which 81% is mismanaged. (source: GMA NewsOnline)

Paper bag: is it really the solution or it just creates another problem?

In Mandaue City, Cebu the Ordinance No. 12-2010-562 otherwise known as the Plastic Bag Prohibition Ordinance of 2010 was approved, thus malls, department stores, and grocery stores are not allowed to use plastic bags but rather paper bags or other earth-friendly alternatives. This ordinance is a good move however because the stores are forced to contract paper bag manufacturers to supply them this is where another problem starts which will still affect the environment. Manufacturing paper bags consumes a lot of energy and resources such as water, it also emits air pollution 70% more pollution than the production of plastic bags (unless the production uses the old technique which is likely impossible) and 50 times more water pollutant than plastic.

Paper bag production (recycling of papers) also consumes four times as much energy as making a plastic bag and 91% more energy to recycle a pound of paper than a pound of plastic. If you thought that papers are biodegradable, well yes if they are only a few and not compressed but if they are in a chunk like in the landfills according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that paper doesn’t degrade that much faster and generate landfill gas (LFG) emissions which has a methane – a potent greenhouse gas that contributes global warming.

Since paper is made out of trees then most likely it contributed global deforestation where wildlife habitats are destroyed. Though papers can be recycled over and over until no useful fiber is available we still cannot shrug off the possibility that the manufacturers will utilize trees (most often from illegal loggers, because it’s cheaper).

We may prevent flooding in our cities because there is no more plastic clogging our canals and waterways, maybe the ocean animals are safe from plastic pollution however we may be exchanging those benefits to the worst problems that are harder to mitigate or resolve. Global warming kills the ocean animals because it turns the sea more acidic, forest animals are slowly in endangered number due to deforestation and changes in the climate, less production of livestock because of environmental changes.

What exactly is the real threat?

Global warming is the real threat and not exactly the plastic; whether we like it or not plastic will still exist unless there’s an alternative material better and safer than it. I believe that the most effective way of mitigating if not resolving this major environmental concern is through education, tough and true to its purpose unbias laws implemented by the government, and of course a true heart towards preserving nature for future generations.

We need to ask these questions in choosing the right material that we will use as containers or tools.

  • Can we recycle this material easily?
  • Are the sourced raw materials renewable or non-renewable?
  • What are the resources involved in producing this material?
  • Will it utilize so much energy, consume so much water, and will it pollute the environment in producing the material?
  • What will happen to the material, is it safe when it reached its end-of-life?

Sacrifice a day to survive further

Hey! so I am following this Filipino teleserye (television series) of ABS-CBN called Ngayon at Kailanman. The story is cliche and predictable, the plot is very common like about rich versus poor, greed, deceit, and family feud but I’m still following it for entertainment (I’m so defensive on that part hahahaha). But this post is not about the teleserye it’s about a particular episode or maybe a scene.

Ok na yun.. kasi sanay na kami sa ganyang kita!

In every story, you will always get a lesson to ponder and on this scene at episode 28 where Inno Cortes (Joshua Garcia) is trying to win Eva Mapendo (Julia Barretto) to make business and become one of their jewelry designers. Inno was arguing to the friends of Eva about why they are willing to accept the deal of the fish vendor that will purchase their fish at a very low price and they did not even consider their other investments like time, effort, plus the fact that they have to divide it with the group. Then this friend of Eva with a red band on his head said “ang sabi nga namin, ok na yun.. kasi sanay na kami sa ganyang kita” (as I’ve said, it’s all ok.. we are all used to it), Inno asked if that’s just it, that they are contented with that. Eva answered that they already accepted the fact that that’s how and what their life is. They work hard the whole day then sell it and if the customer haggles they are willing to accept it to the point that if not break-even, sometimes they are losing just to survive the day.

I don’t have a problem with that because I understand, in fact my family is doing the same thing, and that’s really a reality. We, poor people, are always at the losing end but if you are going to look at the perspective of Inno. Inno being a businessman, it’s not right that you are all doing the hard work all day just for a few pence for your family to survive. You have to be smart and you should not waste your precious time just because you want to survive for the day. For me, this scene is anti-poor because it teaches the poor mass (which majority of the viewers are) to just continue with what they currently are doing and be proud as a consolation because of the “hard work”.
It is the same story of a man stranded on an island, every day he went fishing just for him to survive while waiting for the rescue but one day he grew tired of doing it over and over with a few catches a day enough for him to have a meal. So he decided to skip a day fishing and create a new fishing tool for him to catch more fish in less time and buy him more time of the day. So, after he is done with his new tool and catches fish more than he can consume, he also has more time of the day exploring the island. Very unlikely to what he did on the past days that the whole day was dedicated fishing and getting just enough to survive the day. The lesson is: the man is willing to sacrifice his day to “survive” for a long-term survival.

Television is a very effective tool to influence people and spread information. If only the creators of the teleserye also consider helping the poor Filipinos and educate them through this kind of program instead of like tapping the pinoys at their back and silently say “keep it up and stay being like that” for sure we as a nation will progress faster than our current rate. The creators are already blessed to have that opportunity to rewrite the nation’s fate by influencing the mass through a program that is not just entertaining but at the same time educating.
